[Cardfight!! Vanguard] Tag team fight rules

Preparation
  1. Form a team of 2.
  2. Each player must have 1 deck.
  3. Do not discuss or look at each other's hand during the game.

Basic rules
Starting hand: 5
How to win:
  • Team with a combination of 9 or more damages lose the game.
  • Team with the fighter that have 0 card left in his/her deck lose the game.

Tag fight rule
  1. Each fighters have 1 field but the damage zone will be shared by the team,
    • e.g. Fighter on the right can use the damage zone of the fighter on the left.
    • e.g. In order for the Heal trigger to activate, total damages between the teams will be used as comparison instead of individual players. However, you may not recover damage(s) of your teammate.
    • e.g. Limit Break activates by the total amount of damages of both players.
  2. Fighters can only attack the opposing fighter in front.
  3. When being attacked the team mate may call a unit onto the guardian zone from hand to help, however:
    • intercepting is NOT allowed;
    • the units that are being called to guardian zone must be equivalent to teammate's VG's grade.
  4. Counterblast and Soul Blast costs are shared between the team members.
    • e.g. Soul Savior Dragon needs to Soul Blast *5 to activate it's skill, fighter may Soul Blast *3 from his/her own soul and use Soul Blast *2 from his/her team mate's Soul.

Starting the game
  1. 4 players will play a game of "scissors, paper, stone" to decide the first fighter.
  2. From a team like the one above Team A (Misaki, Kamui) and Team B (Aichi, Kai), the sequence will be from Kamui >> Kai >> Misaki >> Aichi >> Kamui... in a figure 8.
  3. The first 3 fighters can not attack, in the scenario like above Aichi will be the first fighter to attack in this fight.

How to read the card text
  1. [Your] will means the fighter who is using that unit, player may not select your team mate as a target.
    • e.g. Isolde's skill " : [choose a 《Royal Paladin》 from your hand, and discard it] When this unit is placed on 【G】, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose one of your 《Royal Paladin》 will not be hit till end of that battle." Player can not use this skill and target an unit on your team mate's field.
    • e.g. Silent Tom's skill " 【V/R】 : When this unit attacks, if you have an 《Oracle Think Tank》 Vanguard, your opponent may not normal call a Grade 0 to 【G】." = Your opponent's team mate MAY normal call a G0 onto the Guradian Circle.
  2. [All players] will be targeting all 4 fighters.
    • e.g. Dark Cat's skill " : When this unit gets ride or called onto 【V】 or 【R】 and you have an 《Oracle Think Tank》 Vanguard, all players may draw 1 card" = all 4 players may draw 1 card.

    1. it's stated in the rules. both teammates share a damage zone. so if Team A's Player 1 has 0 damage and Player 2 has 7 damage, the team together has 7 damage. As long as the team in question gets a Heal trigger when their total damage is more than or equal to the opposing team's, they may use the heal trigger and heal 1 point of damage.

  2. You both share damage. Both teams get 9 damage together and the healing process is the same as always. If yur team has an equal or more damage then yur opponents, you can heal.

  3. Reply to all above,

damages on the Damage Zone are being shared for most purposes - calculating total damages, Counter Blasting, LB, etc. However, if you do hit a Heal trigger, and both of you and your teammate's damage is higher than your opponents', you may heal only your damage, even though damage taken is calculated as a whole. That is why damage is encouraged to be taken evenly among teammates.

This was updated on the official site, which I missed out on updating. Do revise the official ruling from time to time, and I've updated this post.

  4. Question: What if I used Love Machine Gun, Nociel's ability? Can I target a card in my partner's Damage Zone? If so, where does it go, my hand, or my partner's?

    1. This should be targeted only at your Damage Zone.

  5. if your partner is in a lower grade, can I guard him with a higher grade card in tag team?

    1. No, the units that are being called to guardian zone must be equivalent to your teammate's VG's grade.

Thanks for bringing this up, I've updated the post.

  6. Anyone know if cards are restricted to 4 copies amongst teams instead of players while using this format?

Example, Teamate and I are both playing Kagero, can we both each use x4 of any given Kagero card each? or is it restricted to x4 per team? O_o

    1. Restriction are for per deck.

Regarding using the same clan in a tag team, most organizers I know do not allow both players in a team using the same clan, though there is no official statement on that.

  7. Whats the Deal with Text:

V/C: If you have a non (Clan)vanguard or rear guard this unit gets -2000

    What does it mean

    3. It means if you have a unit that is not the same clan with the said unit, -2k Power onto the said unit. For example, you have a DKV (Naru) on the Vanguard circle and Blaster Blade (RP) on the Rearguard circle, -2k on DKV.
