Enabling the Save and Quit Warning option in Firefox

If you've recently updated to Firefox 4 and onwards, then you must have noticed a brand new design and some new features. However, there's one very handy feature, 'Save and Exit' is missing in Firefox 4 which was available in previous versions of Firefox browser. Although, we still can restore the tabs of our last session by clicking 'Restore Previous Session' which can be access via 'History', some may still opt for the 'Save and Exit' feature.

The good news is 'Save and Quit' is not removed from Firefox 4 and onwards, but instead is turned off by default, and we can turn it back on easily. The following guide will help you on enabling the said feature:

  1. Start Firefox and type "about:config" in the address bar and press ENTER.

  2. After pressing ENTER, you should see a warning page on proceeding. Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
  3. Now, in the new opened page, in the "Filter" column, type "browser.showQuitWarning" and you'll eventually see the preference, "browser.showQuitWarning". The value of preference by default is set to "False".
  4. Double click this line and you will see the value turn to "True".
  5. With that, you're done with the procedures and whenever you close the window, you will get the "Save and Quit" warning tab.
